BEAUtiful: Purity by Philosophy

I don’t often post beauty tips because, well, I don’t consider myself an expert. Or an intermediate. But this product has really helped me, and so I found it important to share!Let me preface this product review with a fact: I have horrible skin. I started getting acne when I was 13 and despite trying every product besides Accutane (including a few other prescription meds and ointments), it hasn’t ever stopped. Then, around age 20 I started getting these subcutaneous cysts that are extremely painful (and look like a giant zit, though since they are subcutaneous, they can’t be popped to relieve the pressure – not that popping is ever a good thing, but if your face is literally throbbing, you think about it). The worst part of these cysts is that whether I touch them or not, they leave a pretty decent sized scar afterwards.

I don’t have oily skin at all; it’s super dry, no matter what type of moisturizer I use, which means that some products actually make my skin clog because of the oil they introduce. I’ve even tried no products at all!

Slowly over the last 9 months, I’ve found a combination that at least keeps my breakouts to a minimum and seems to help with some of the scarring from the cysts, and the foundation is Purity cleanser by Philosophy. It’s simple, doesn’t have a strong fragrance (which can irritate my sensitive skin), and decently priced. I bought the 8 ounce $20 size from Sephora and I still have half a bottle left after using it daily and generously for two months. Combined with their non-drying On a Clear Day acne treatment, and for the first time in 12 years, I almost have blemish-free skin. What blemishes and scars I have are easily covered with Bare Minerals, but that’s a post for another day 🙂

Supporting Other Crafters

As someone who enjoys the artistic energy from creating things, I love to support other crafters, but sometimes it’s hard to find what you are looking for. Most of you know about Etsy, a place to buy handmade artistic wears, and if you don’t, this is a great place to find really neat and unique items. I thought I’d highlight some of our upcoming purchases for the nursery from Etsy.

Closet Dividers

I wish I could take credit for finding these, but my friend G over at Life on the Terrace found them first, and I fell in love! They are dividers for hanging clothes up in the closet, and these are personalized to correspond with baby sizes, but you can customize them to say anything. Super cute! Click on the image to go to PotatoPatch’s Etsy site.

Birth Announcement Print

Since I had good luck finding woodland-themed creatures that matched our theme from PotatoPatch, I took a look at her other wares and found this awesome birth announcement print! Everything is customized, including the clip art, so we’ll pick the owl and the hedgehog to match our stuff. I can’t wait to get this one after Clark is born!

Here’s a picture of all the cliparts she can add to it:

Onesie Stickers

Our last Etsy splurge to add to the nursery actually has very little to do with it. You see, it’s always cute to take a picture on the baby’s monthly birthdays to chart growth, but monthly onesies are expensive, and it’s hard to tell what size baby will actually be in at each month. Enter onesie stickers. You just peel these stickers off and place on a onesie and voila, you have a customized-looking outfit that tells everyone who looks at it exactly how old baby is! No more wondering, “Was that the third month pic or the fourth?” And of course, I found them in woodland creatures again 🙂 Although, she has 20 designs in boy, girl, and gender neutral, and with the great price ($9 for a set of 12!) these make a really unique shower gift if you know someone who is pregnant.

Because I respect individual property rights, I’ve linked all of these images back to the sellers so you can easily find their respective shops. Even though I don’t know these sellers personally, I encourage you to use Etsy to help support artisans from all over the world if you can instead of heading to corporate big-box stores. Plus, this stuff is way cuter, anyway! 🙂

Awesome Find: Lowe’s Coupon

If you are looking to make any major home improvement purchases at Lowe’s, check out this link to a 10% coupon off purchases up to $5000. You can only use one per household (period) because it’s a “moving” coupon. Personally, I don’t feel bad using this coupon even though we haven’t just moved because we weren’t able to purchase anything with the actual coupon we received when we did move two years ago. From what I understand, it is good on sale and special order merchandise as well.

Awesome Find: Crate & Barrel BestBuys

Today, I got Crate & Barrel’s BestBuys catalog in the mail, and I was excited to find a lot of pieces that I love. Generally, I don’t like CB’s mod style, but it seems like they’ve been offering  a broader range of styles as of late. Here are some of the pieces that I absolutely fell in love with:

Optic Sea Glass Table Lamp – I love the cool natural look of the sea glass in this lamp. This seems like something I’d find on YHL or something I’d like to give to my mother-in-law for her Florida house. The different shapes of the base and the shade make it interesting.

Sedona Totes – the natural look and feel of these totes just makes me want to have all my belongings out to share with the world. They look so soft and touchable, and would be nice to make a space feel more approachable.

Again, I love the natural look of these woven rugs. They come in great colors so they can be neutral or add a pop to a room, and they are indoor/outdoor rugs, which means that they will be more durable than a traditional rug, especially if you have kiddos spilling stuff or pets running around.

Troy Twin Sleeper – This oversized chair is a perfect addition to a kid’s room, office, or even a living room because it converts to a twin sleeper bed. Can you imagine how much better sleepovers would have been as a kid if you had one of these to sleep on? Plus this chair is big enough to curl up in on its own and read a great book. This could quickly become my favorite chair ever.

Marimekko Madison Bed Linens – While they are available in many colors, I love this fun pop of yellow that can help bring spring into any house. They also have similar shower curtains, and I think this would be a fun way to go to make any bathroom brighter.

Glass Canisters with Lids – We have some canisters similar to these in our kitchen (except ours are that thick poly plastic) and we love them! At  first, Jason was skeptical of having everything out in the open, but it really does bring a cool texture to the room. Plus, the contents are always a conversation starter – especially the whole wheat flour!

I hope you’ve enjoyed this quick overview of some of the wonderful things that Crate & Barrel has to offer. What are some of your favorite pieces from the BestBuys catalog?
